Wicker weaving is common to many cultures worldwide. It is the interweaving of plant materials through a framework of other plant materials. The Cherokee culture traditionally uses Honeysuckle plants. Honeysuckle baskets were made with chase weaving - a technique of wicker work in which two weavers of different colors chase each other in alternate weaving rounds over an even number of flat splints. The kit contains fiber rush, fiber splint, paint powder and a 8-page full color instructional booklet. You will need: scissors, large bowl, water, measuring spoons, plastic spoon, plastic bag and newspaper. Makes one 4in. high basket. Ages 12 and up, adult participation necessary for younger ages.
